City Museum supports the idea of learning through play. We believe our hands-on, learning-
through-doing approach allows children to develop self-confidence, create new approaches to problem solving, and drop their “scholastic guard” and they become immersed in and captivated by the museum’s many offerings.
For your convenience, we have made available some learning activities grouped by curriculum areas and the appropriate grade levels. Students will be compelled to seek answers for questions pertaining to items and features within the CITY MUSEUM; some are simple concepts, while others are more involved and will likely foster healthy discussion afterwards. If some activities are beyond the scope of your classroom, please feel free to modify or disregard them.
Homeschool groups, we’ve got a special deal for you, too!
On Wednesdays and Thursdays in January & February, City Museum welcomes homeschoolers with a
special rate and activity just for you! Reserved groups will receive admission for $8.00 plus tax
per person with NO MINIMUM NUMBER required! What’s more, if you can provide us with a
copy of your group’s tax exemption letter when making the reservation, we’ll reduce the rate to
just $6.00 per person.
Once you’re here for your homeschool visit, meet us at the front desk (by the giant rock) at 10:30
AM for a 30-45 minute docent lead tour of City Museum. After your tour, go play on your own,
or bring a sack lunch to Architectural Hall, introduce yourself and ‘hang out’ with the other
homeschool groups visiting that day. Please call our groups office at 314-231-2489, ext 601 to make your reservation.
Additional Educational Experiences:
World Aquarium Group Visits must be booked by calling the World Aquarium at 314-647-6011
Located on the 2nd floor of the City Museum, the separately owned and operated World Aquarium
offers two options for group visitors. For an additional $5.00 per person (payable at the World
Aquarium entrance on the 2nd floor) Groups may select ONE of the following:
45 Minute Tours. (Advanced reservation required) Your 45 minute docent-led tour offers
an opportunity for a rich immersion experience, including the chance to experience animals
firsthand. Fostering concern for aquatic creatures and the local and oceanic ecosystems in which
they dwell. While tours can be arranged for groups of all ages, visitors grades K-8 are more
likely to benefit from the guided tour. A more in-depth, 90 minute tour is also available for the
cost of $6.00 per person, please contact the aquarium office for details. **Tours do not include
on-your-own exploration time.
Open Exploration- $5.00 per person. Explore on your own! This option gives you the ability to
leave and re-enter the aquarium throughout the entirety of your City Museum visit. This may be
beneficial for groups that wish to explore in ‘small groups’ rather than as one large group.
