“I want some ice cream!”
“Let’s go ride the ferris wheel”
“WOAH, look, it’s the BUS!”
On June 6, 2009, City Museum ‘topped itself’ once again by opening the long-awaited rooftop
addition. Once envisioned as a water park (too heavy!) Atop the City features Big Eli, a restored, revived, and revolving four-story Ferris wheel that offers a one-of-a-kind view of the city from the pinnacle of St. Louis’s most one-of-a-kind attraction! While you’re exploring the roof, don’t miss the wide-and steep rope ramp slide, a stepping stone-festooned Splash Pond, a massive rope swing under the dome. For long-time City Museum fans, now’s your chance to get up close and personal with giant Praying Mantis at the top of the dome. And last but certainly not least, the famed City Museum Schoolbus is yours to command. Go ahead, get behind the wheel!
“The bus came from Roxana School District and we decided to bring that up and set that up
here. And we didn’t really have a parking permit for that at the time, so there was a little bit of controversy over that.” -Bob Cassilly
