SUMMARY:314 Day - GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ Official Attempt
DESCRIPTION:City Museum already has a few official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ titles\, including the World’s Largest Pencil (in Skateless Park)\, the World’s Longest Seesaw (in our Parking Garage)\, and the World’s Largest Tennis Racket (somewhere around here…). We also have a few unofficial titles under our belt\, like the “World’s Largest Underpants” usually seen hanging in Beatnik Bob’s. \n\n\n\nThursday\, March 14 we’ll have a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator on-site as we attempt to break another record: Most People Wearing Underwear on Their Head. The current record (270) was set in 2012 in Naperville\, IL for a “Captain Underpants” book release party. We believe we can get 314 people to participate on 314 Day — the celebration of all things St. Louis — in this record-setting event! \n\n\n\nTo participate in\, or just watch\, our GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS attempt\, make your way to the Vault Room as we will start distributing (new\, clean) underwear around 2pm and aim to have an official count by 2:30pm. All that’s required for participation is to wear the underwear on your head for at least one minute\, when directed\, and smile for a few photos afterward! \n\n\n\nMusic will be provided by 314DJ\, and all participants will receive a special gift as thanks for their help. While you’re here\, you can also check out The Science of Guinness World Records on the 3rd Floor in Architecture Hall! \n\n\n\n2nd Floor in Vault Room. General Admission is required. \n\n\n\nOh\, look! We’re in the news!\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nYahoo! SUMMARY:Physics Bus
DESCRIPTION:Spending a week learning about Physics aboard an old school bus may be the last thing you expect to be excited about\, but this spring at City Museum\, you might just be surprised!  \n\n\n\nThis isn’t any old bus\, and this certainly isn’t your standard high school physics class. This bright purple\, tricked out\, solar equipped\, traveling science museum is filled with hands-on experiments that glow\, zap\, buzz\, float\, surprise\, and delight. This unique experience\, dubbed the Physics Bus\, is the brainchild of Ithaca\, NY based professional tinkerer\, Erik Herman. Now celebrating it’s 20th year\, this mobile wonderland for physical phenomena is pleased to be adding a week-long stop at City Museum to its 2024 national tour.   \n\n\n\nThis Earth Week (April 24 – 27) be sure to stop by and be a part of this eccentric endeavor as recyclables\, discarded tech\, thrift store appliances\, and other everyday objects are transformed by a team of tinkerers-in-residence into interactive contraptions that bend your mind and expand your understanding of the universe around us. Control rainbow-colored magnetic fields\, draw glowing pictures with lasers\, and zap yourself (or your friends!) with energy you create with just the twist of a knob.  \n\n\n\nFollow along during the week as a pile of ‘junk’ slowly transforms into something truly extraordinary\, culminating in a debut exhibition on Saturday\, April 27th. Mark your calendars and get ready for some “wow\,”  because the Physics Bus is coming to town\, and you won’t want to miss it! \n\n\n\nPhysics Bus team on-site for demonstrationsWednesday\, April 24 – Friday\, April 2612pm-12:30pm and 2pm-2:30pm on the 4th Floor \n\n\n\nPhysics Bus parked at City MuseumSaturday\, April 2710am-1pm and 2pm-5pm in the Parking Lot \n\n\n\nIncluded with General Admission or Member Pass. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nOh\, look! SUMMARY:Flustered Mustard presents "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" SOLD OUT!
DESCRIPTION:Get ready Transylvanians — It’s time for The Rocky Horror Picture Show! \n\n\n\nThis spooky season\, join us for a late-night screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show with LIVE Shadowcast Flustered Mustard. Eager to do The Time Warp? Great! We can’t wait to have you! Never seen it? Throw on your mother’s high heels and fishnets\, ’cause you’re in for a treat! \n\n\n\nThe longest-running midnight movie of all time stars Tim Curry as the kinky yet endearing “transsexual from Transylvania” Dr. Frank N. Furter\, Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick as his hapless guests Brad and Janet\, Meat Loaf as motorcycle-riding rough trade and author Richard O’Brien as the hunchbacked butler Riff Raff. It’s harmless musical fun—a delightful spoof of Hollywood horror movies and Old Dark House melodramas. Become a part of the movie by shouting out lines with the cast as well as throwing props to mock the action on screen. The Rocky Horror Picture Show was the first—and is still the best—interactive movie experience! \n\n\n\nDressing up is HIGHLY encouraged! Rocky Horror isn’t Rocky Horror without the corsets and lipstick. \n\n\n\nEach ticket includes a Prop Bag (a $5 value) with all the necessary items for the evening. SUMMARY:LENS
DESCRIPTION:LENS is a multimedia installation by Gary Passanise\, one of many local artists who have studio space inside City Museum’s halls. \n\n\n\nPassanise says of this installation\, “The images in this exhibit are an interactive montage of photo transparencies combined with the iconic views and activity from the fourth-floor windows of City Museum. \n\n\n\n“In September of 2024 I attended an artist residency in Southwestern France and exhibited drawings and small sculpture*. The memory of events captured through the lens of photography are merely one aspect of constructing this exhibit. While memory is a significant catalyst for visual art\, what remains fluid in the content of this body of work is the continual changes both from the light\, time of day and the always evolving vistas and activity from the west side of the Museum. \n\n\n\n“The title ‘Lens’ refers specifically to layering the experience of new and unusual vistas during my travels to Barcelona Spain and the consequent train ride documentation to and from the residency in Southwestern France.” \n\n\n\nExhibit DatesFriday\, Jan. 17 – Sunday\, Mar. 2\, 2025 \n\n\n\nOpening ReceptionFriday\, Jan. 31 from 5pm–7pm \n\n\n\nThe residency and this exhibit are funded by The Regional Arts Commission\, Artist Support Grant 2024 and City Museum. \n\n\n\n4th Floor near Overflow Café. Included with General Admission or Member Pass.

SUMMARY:Dome Study (Infinity)
DESCRIPTION:Amber Dohrenwend is an American artist based in Marquette\, Michigan. She constructs post-consumer cardboard sculptures\, costuming and installations with soft\, organic curves and textures. Her work directs viewers’ attention to the vast potential of a humble material that is often overlooked. She often works with nothing more than cardboard\, a pair of scissors and a stapler. \n\n\n\n“I’m known for using cardboard in an unexpected way\, and I love to think about the differences between the way things are made in nature and the human world. I love the flexibility and impermanence of natural architecture\, the way things grow\, move and change with the seasons. I also love putting people inside my work. That’s why I love co-creating installations with public participation. There’s a feeling of possibility that ignites a person’s creative agency. That’s what I’m always shooting for. To get people to start asking\, “What if?” and to be at the heart of a feeling of transformation.” \n\n\n\nExhibit DatesFriday\, Feb. 7 – Friday\, Mar. 7\, 2025 \n\n\n\nOpening ReceptionFriday\, Feb. 7 from 5pm–8pm \n\n\n\nWorkshops with the artistSaturday\, Feb. 8 from 12pm–2pm and 4pm–6pmSunday\, Feb. 9 from 12pm–2pm and 4pm–6pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n3rd Floor between Skateless Park and Toddler Town. Materials will be provided\, and guests are encouraged to participate in creating a cardboard environment throughout the exhibit. Included with General Admission or Member Pass.
