SUMMARY:LENS
DESCRIPTION:LENS is a multimedia installation by Gary Passanise\, one of many local artists who have studio space inside City Museum’s halls. \n\n\n\nPassanise says of this installation\, “The images in this exhibit are an interactive montage of photo transparencies combined with the iconic views and activity from the fourth-floor windows of City Museum. \n\n\n\n“In September of 2024 I attended an artist residency in Southwestern France and exhibited drawings and small sculpture*. The memory of events captured through the lens of photography are merely one aspect of constructing this exhibit. While memory is a significant catalyst for visual art\, what remains fluid in the content of this body of work is the continual changes both from the light\, time of day and the always evolving vistas and activity from the west side of the Museum. \n\n\n\n“The title ‘Lens’ refers specifically to layering the experience of new and unusual vistas during my travels to Barcelona Spain and the consequent train ride documentation to and from the residency in Southwestern France.” \n\n\n\nExhibit DatesFriday\, Jan. 17 – Sunday\, Mar. 2\, 2025 \n\n\n\nOpening ReceptionFriday\, Jan. 31 from 5pm–7pm \n\n\n\nThe residency and this exhibit are funded by The Regional Arts Commission\, Artist Support Grant 2024 and City Museum. \n\n\n\n4th Floor near Overflow Café. Included with General Admission or Member Pass.

SUMMARY:Dome Study (Infinity)
DESCRIPTION:Amber Dohrenwend is an American artist based in Marquette\, Michigan. She constructs post-consumer cardboard sculptures\, costuming and installations with soft\, organic curves and textures. Her work directs viewers’ attention to the vast potential of a humble material that is often overlooked. She often works with nothing more than cardboard\, a pair of scissors and a stapler. \n\n\n\n“I’m known for using cardboard in an unexpected way\, and I love to think about the differences between the way things are made in nature and the human world. I love the flexibility and impermanence of natural architecture\, the way things grow\, move and change with the seasons. I also love putting people inside my work. That’s why I love co-creating installations with public participation. There’s a feeling of possibility that ignites a person’s creative agency. That’s what I’m always shooting for. To get people to start asking\, “What if?” and to be at the heart of a feeling of transformation.” \n\n\n\nExhibit DatesFriday\, Feb. 7 – Friday\, Mar. 7\, 2025 \n\n\n\nOpening ReceptionFriday\, Feb. 7 from 5pm–8pm \n\n\n\nWorkshops with the artistSaturday\, Feb. 8 from 12pm–2pm and 4pm–6pmSunday\, Feb. 9 from 12pm–2pm and 4pm–6pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n3rd Floor between Skateless Park and Toddler Town. Materials will be provided\, and guests are encouraged to participate in creating a cardboard environment throughout the exhibit. Included with General Admission or Member Pass.

SUMMARY:Spindles in the City
DESCRIPTION:If you’ve been to City Museum\, you’ve probably seen the uniquely colorful spinning posts along the rails of the main staircase\, mezzanine\, and second floor. \n\n\n\nIf you’re familiar with the City Museum lore\, you’re probably aware that those iconic spindles came with the building — they were conveyor belt rollers\, from when our building was an International Shoe Company warehouse. \n\n\n\nAnd if you’ve taken a closer look at those spindles anytime recently… you could probably tell that they need some TLC. \n\n\n\nWe asked our friends at The Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis to help us recruit some artists to re-paint the spindles\, and we want you to get in on the fun too! You don’t have to be artistically inclined to paint a spindle\, so don’t be shy. If painting isn’t your thing\, come down for the vibes and take in the talent and creativity we have here in STL. \n\n\n\nTuesday\, Feb. 25 5pm–9pm \n\n\n\nFeatured Local Artists: \n\n\n\n\nFatou Kane\n\n\n\nZachary Chasnoff / Simiya Sudduth\n\n\n\nRobert Armbrister\n\n\n\nCarolyn Lewis\n\n\n\nJohn Harrington\n\n\n\nMcCrae\n\n\n\nDavid Ruggeri\n\n\n\nBen Hanvy\n\n\n\nAyanna Thompson\n\n\n\n\nMust be 21+ with valid ID. A portion of the ticket proceeds will go to support The Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis. \n\n\n\nPainter ($30)\n\nSpectator ($20)\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nEach ‘Painter’ ticket allows you to paint one spindle. We will provide paint and other supplies — please do not bring your own materials. Artwork must be appropriate for all ages. No text or logos. City Museum reserves the right to alter or remove any design at any time. Each person will get at least one hour to complete their spindle\, and all artwork must be completed by the end of the event time. Start times will be staggered to allow all participants fair access to space and supplies.

SUMMARY:314 Day Scavenger Hunt
DESCRIPTION:Find your STL spirit on 314 Day at one of St. Louis’s most iconic places. Celebrate 314 day with a scavenger hunt at City Museum! \n\n\n\nWilly Wonka had a golden ticket\, Air Bud had a golden retriever\, and we have a golden… shoe heel? \n\n\n\nFrom the late-1800s through the mid-1900s\, St. Louis was second only to New York in terms of garment manufacturing\, especially for dresses and shoes. At one time\, Washington Avenue had more shoe manufacturers than any other street in the world and was deemed “Shoe Street\, USA.” This included the International Shoe Co. factory in what is now The Last Hotel. \n\n\n\nOur building\, which is connected to The Last Hotel by a breezeway\, was International Shoe Co.’s warehouse. You may already be familiar with a few things the original tenants left behind\, such as the supply chutes that became the spiral slides in the Enchanted Caves\, as well as the roller spindles (which we recently repainted!) that carried packages down to the loading docks. They also left us some slightly less useful items… like thousands of leather shoe scraps. \n\n\n\nBut one man’s trash is another man’s treasure shoe heel! To celebrate the history of St. Louis\, the Garment District\, and our own digs on this area-code themed holiday\, we’ve dusted off 314 shoe heels\, painted them gold\, and hidden them around the museum. \n\n\n\nWe challenge you to scour every corner of the Enchanted Caves\, Architecture Hall\, Beatnik Bob’s\, and the rest of the museum to claim your prize — that’s right\, every golden shoe heel you find is worth a prize! Turn your hard work and minor history lesson into candy\, City Museum swag and apparel\, or even a pair of tickets for your next visit. \n\n\n\nIncluded with General Admission or Member Pass. Each golden shoe heel may only be redeemed once and must be redeemed during open hours (9:30am–10pm) on Friday\, March 14. \n\n\n\nOh\, look! We’re in the news!\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSophisticated Living St. Louis — 314 Day Defines the Kaleidoscope that is St. Louis \n\n\n\nDo314 — 314 Day “Hunt for the Golden Heels” at City Museum!

SUMMARY:Flustered Mustard presents "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" - SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:Get ready Transylvanians — It’s time for The Rocky Horror Picture Show! \n\n\n\nThis spooky season\, join us for a late-night screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show (celebrating 50 years!) on the Rooftop with LIVE shadowcast Flustered Mustard. Eager to do The Time Warp? Great! We can’t wait to have you! Never seen it? Throw on your mother’s high heels and fishnets\, ’cause you’re in for a treat! \n\n\n\nThe longest-running midnight movie of all time stars Tim Curry as the kinky yet endearing “transsexual from Transylvania” Dr. Frank N. Furter\, Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick as his hapless guests Brad and Janet\, Meat Loaf as motorcycle-riding rough trade and author Richard O’Brien as the hunchbacked butler Riff Raff. It’s harmless musical fun—a delightful spoof of Hollywood horror movies and Old Dark House melodramas. Become a part of the movie by shouting out lines with the cast as well as throwing props to mock the action on screen. The Rocky Horror Picture Show was the first—and is still the best—interactive movie experience! \n\n\n\nDressing up is HIGHLY encouraged! Rocky Horror isn’t Rocky Horror without the corsets and lipstick. \n\n\n\nEach ticket includes a Prop Bag (a $5 value) with all the necessary items for the evening. For the safety of everyone involved\, outside Prop Bags will NOT be allowed at the screening. Bag checks will happen at the door\, so please use common sense (dangerous items will not be allowed in). SUMMARY:City Nights: Local Dive
DESCRIPTION:This is the last City Nights of the season — don’t miss it! \n\n\n\nCelebrate the art and artists of our inimitable city by collaborating on a collective art piece in one of the most unique places in STL! St. Louis Arts\, Garden Heart Productions\, and St. Louis-based artist McCrae present PIECES: An Interactive Art and Music Experience. \n\n\n\nPIECES is an immersive\, multi-sensory experience within City Nights that invites guests to unleash their creative side and explore how art\, dance\, and music connect us. Each installation—painting\, puzzles\, and performances—represents an individual ‘piece’ of a larger whole. As attendees move through the area\, they contribute to collaborative art forms\, culminating in a shared sense of creation and connection. \n\n\n\nThe PIECEAt the heart of this project is a recently discovered geometric shape known as “The Hat\,” or the Einstein tile. It is a single shape that tiles infinitely without ever repeating the same pattern twice. This discovery\, made in 2023\, bridges mathematics\, design\, and art in a way that invites endless creative participation. \n\n\n\nThe Interactive MuralGuests collaborate on a live mural guided by local artists. Participants are invited to paint small portions under artist direction as the mural evolves throughout the evening. The final composition symbolizes the collective creativity of all attendees. \n\n\n\nThe Community PuzzleEach guest receives a puzzle piece as they enter. Guests add their piece to a large communal puzzle within the event space\, revealing a final image that represents unity and togetherness. \n\n\n\nThe Music & Dance ZoneA vibrant space featuring live interactive dance performances and real-time musical collaboration. Performers and musicians feed off audience energy\, encouraging guests to move\, groove\, and express themselves freely. \n\n\n\nFriday\, November 14 from 7pm–11pm\n\n\n\n\nPlay all day\, party all night: Your event ticket includes General Admission for the full day of the event\, so you can arrive as eagerly early or fashionably late as you wish\n\n\n\nAdults only: We’re closing early so you can party!
